Elaine Woods was born at Docker River in 1969. Elaine grew up at Irruntji later moving south to the Esperence areas. She watched the art movement in the Pitjantjatjara lands grow from strength to strength. She watched her mother, Maringka Baker develop into a famous artist. Elaine's mother is the custodian of several Tjukurpa's (dreaming) Maringka and Elaine's uncle Jimmy Baker were the feature artists at the Australian National Galleries Cultural Warriors Triennial. Elaine took up painting in 2010 and is an artist to keep an eye on like other young aboriginal artists Esther Bruno and Gracie Ward they paint their family stories in the traditional ochre colours but are able to bring in new brighter colours to bring their paintings into the next generation.
