Richard Yugumbarri
Language: Kukatja
Country: Kiwirrkurra WA

Richard Yukenbarri (Yugumbari) was born in 1958 at Parnkupiti Creek in Western Australia which runs into Lake Gregory, which is essentially a drainage lake between the Tanami Desert and the Great Sandy Desert. His mother, Lucy gave birth to him at the end of a long, perilous journey along the Cannng Stock Route. His mother was a Balgo Artist. Richard was raised on Balgo Mission and lives with his wife, Takariya, in Kiwirrkurra. He is regarded as a second generation artist while his wife was one of the last to leave the desert and the traditional hunter-gatherer desert dwelling lifestyle in 1984. Takariya is one of the "Pintupi Nine", also referred to as "The Lost Tribe" displaced due to the British Government's Blue Streak Missile Tests of the 1960's and being separated from others for approximately 20 years.
